Blue Latitude Health has celebrated a landmark year of unprecedented growth. Here we detail the highlights, from the big wins and outstanding projects to the internal initiatives that ensure we are continuously improving. Of course our success would not be possible without our fantastic clients and our wonderful employees who always go above and beyond!
After 12 years of independent operations, a new chapter in Blue Latitude Health’s history had begun.
In November 2018, we shared the exciting news that we had been acquired by Fishawack Group of Companies. We recognised that modern healthcare needs both scale and increased scope and having the Fishawack Group supporting us, we were able to transform our business and bolster our capabilities and geographical reach.
The team has grown to 750+ spanning the US, Europe and India, working closely with our sister agencies - Carling, Healthcircle, Fishawack Medcomms, 2e and Dudnyk. Entrepreneurial in spirit and collaborative in nature, we are all healthcare experts who offer a broad and deep set of capabilities to senior leadership, marketing and medical affairs teams.
The Group has deliberately been built to be integrated, agile, and adaptable. We efficiently bringing together scientific, strategic, creative and technological experts in multi-disciplinary, high- functioning teams to address individual client challenges, driving strategy through to execution, for brands, portfolios and organisations alike.
As a result, our capabilities of Insight, Strategy, Customer Experience and Engagement, Creative Excellence have been enhanced by further skills from across the Group. We now work with even more digital, media, training and creative experts, along with an expansive medical team and further specialists in therapy areas such as rare disease. We can also leverage our expert partners to get access to networks of key opinion leaders in oncology, immunology, haematology, ophthalmology, hepatology – ensuring our clients have access to the experts as and when they need them.
This year we also redefined our Blue Latitude Health service set to continue to align with the evolving healthcare landscape. This ensures we are best placed to partner with our clients as they make pivotal decisions during the complex journey from laboratory asset to commercial success and improved health outcomes. The services we offer help our clients to make the decisions that matter to enable brand, portfolio and organisational success, creating value and driving change both internally and externally. We will be rolling out five key service areas in 2020:
• Early clinical strategy
• Launch Excellence
• Brand and portfolio success
• Customer experience and engagement
• Creative excellence and experience design
Meanwhile, we continued to diversify our client base, working with global pharma and innovative biotech start-ups alike. While this year saw many wins for us, October remains a standout month. We pitched for two concurrent Agency of Record (AOR) accounts, one out of the US and one out of Europe. We are delighted to announce that we landed both – one will be the largest AOR account in the Fishawack group working across a haematology portfolio in the USA and the other is launching an exciting and transformational rare disease product globally.
Of course, as the pitches take place, we continue to deliver client work. A few highlights include: portfolio planning across a respiratory franchise for 15 years in the future; Rolled out an HCP portal across four countries (with four more in the pipeline); delivered seven different congresses across our AOR clients; developed a global service platform design in immuno-oncology and launched a ground-breaking product into complex heterogeneous markets for treatment-resistant infections
We are also investigating how to utilise the latest advances in neuroscience and neuroimaging techniques to enhance the impact of our marketing. Upcoming research collaborations and developing the science behind the art of neuro-marketing are cause for real excitement as we step into the next decade.
We also continued to embed our partnership with the Personalized Medicine Coalition, demonstrating our commitment to the space. This included developing in-depth thought leadership on the topic and sponsoring this year’s conference in Boston.
Outside of working for our clients, we have continued to publish our Perspective magazine and thought leadership. This year we released numerous stand-alone articles, mini-packs, an animation and Perspective magazines spanning topics and therapy areas, including: ‘Understanding multiple sclerosis’, ‘The brand strategy revolution’, ‘Customer Experience: shaping digital healthcare’, ‘Precision medicine from concept to clinic’ and our latest piece of content; ‘Launch Excellence 2020’. All our thought leadership is available for download for free on our website.
On top of that, we also won two Silver Telly Awards, one for a non-broadcast pharmaceutical video and one for a non-broadcast recruitment video, and we were included in PMLiVE’s T40 – UK Top Forty Creative Agencies.
2019 also marks the third anniversary of Blue Latitude Health in the United States. It was July 2016 when James Atherton, BLH US Managing Director, hopped off a plane from London to open an office and start a new chapter of BLH history in the USA. In just over three years, James has led the growth of the Blue Latitude Health US from just two to 25 employees, two soon to be three office moves to accommodate our growth and an inclusion in MM&M’s Top 100 agencies list in April 2019.
As a consequence of our expansion, we reached a major milestone of more than 100 staff members in September. Our talent team continue to recognise that maintaining the quality of hires along with our company values and culture is essential in a time of rapid growth. Kudos to them for continuing to find new ways to source, induct, train and engage both new and existing employees including introducing great staff welfare initiatives such as CALM and flexible working to ensure good mental health and positive work/life balance are at the forefront of our diversified workforce.
